Power of Attorney ...
The handsome man in the photos is a local attorney who took his life in his own hands when he came to our program meeting in March. Not only did he play to the camera, but he talked to our members about the importance of using care when giving Power of Attorney to another person.

Jeffrey told us that a Power of Attorney is a legal instrument that is used to delegate legal authority to another. The person who signs (executes) a Power of Attorney is called the Principal. The power of Attorney gives legal authority to another person (called an Agent or Attorney-in-Fact) to make property, financial and other legal decisions for the Principal.

A Principal can give an Agent broad legal authority or very limited authority. The Power of Attorney is frequently used to help in the event of a Principal's illness or disability or in legal transactions where the principal cannot be present to sign necessary legal documents.
We appreciated his serious side and the knowledge he shared and we thoroughly enjoyed his playful side. I think I speak for all of us when I say we admired his courage to come to a meeting of just women in the middle of the day!
He further surprised us when he offered to serve as a sponsor of our annual golf tournament which is our biggest fundraiser of the year. What a wonderful guy! If he had a wife, we'd invite her to join our club! But, alas, he's a bachelor, so we'll have to settle for having him serve as one of our special guys --- a Soroptimister!
