About Us
Soroptimist International of Davie installed its Officers in the presence of its Charter Members on Thursday, April 28th, 1983 and became an official club of Soroptimist International.
Soroptimist International is made up of 4 Federations that include 125 member countries, over 3,000 clubs, and over 90,000 members.
Soroptimist International of Davie is a member of the Federation Soroptimist International of the Americas, Inc., Southern Region, District 1.
Betty Roberts, Pat Montford and Joan Kovac were members of the Fort Lauderdale chapter of Soroptimist and had worked for nearly a year to establish the Davie chapter. Among Soroptimists’ Charter Members were Constance Dickey, Barbara McCall, Barbara Spiece and Mary Ann Taylor.
It was Betty Roberts who suggested “a bright, articulate and energetic woman” to be the first President – someone that Betty and Joan had worked with who shared their passion; a young politician from Cooper City named Suellen Fardelmann. She was sworn in as the first President of Soroptimist International of Davie on April 28, 1983 and their legacy to the community began with a shared vision: to save Old Davie School from demolition and restore it as a museum of local history and a community center for Davie and area residents.
Soroptimist International of Davie has grown in its mission to serve the community since it was established in 1983. Today, it supports a number of programs and community organizations within Davie and Broward County as well as supporting the global outreach of Soroptimist International of the Americas around the world.
